My Style Rules After Becoming a Personal Stylist

Becoming a personal stylist changed the way I think about clothing. I no longer look at pieces in isolation. I look at how they function inside a wardrobe.
Here are the style rules I come back to again and again.
Rule 1: Stop buying random pieces
A cute top is only useful if it works with your wardrobe. Before buying anything, ask yourself what you will wear it with.
Rule 2: Fit matters more than the label
Designer does not automatically mean flattering. The best piece is the one that fits your body and your life.
Rule 3: Basics are the foundation
If you are missing basics, your statement pieces will feel harder to wear. Build the foundation first.
Rule 4: Repeat your outfits
Repeating outfits is not boring. It means you have figured out what works.
Rule 5: Trends should support your style, not replace it
Choose trends that feel aligned with your personal style. You do not need to participate in every trend.
Rule 6: Your wardrobe should match your actual life
Do not build a fantasy wardrobe for a life you do not live. Build a wardrobe for your current season.
Rule 7: Accessories matter
Shoes, bags, jewelry, and belts are often what make an outfit feel finished.
Rule 8: Keep a running list
The best shoppers know what they are looking for. Keep a note on your phone with wardrobe gaps so you shop with intention.
My style prescription
Style becomes easier when you stop shopping emotionally and start shopping strategically.
