The Summer Style Prescription: Easy Outfit Formulas for Hot Weather

Summer style should feel easy, breathable, and polished without requiring too much thought. When the weather gets warmer, I rely on outfit formulas — simple combinations that take the guesswork out of getting dressed.
Instead of buying random summer pieces, build a small set of formulas you can repeat with different colors, shoes, and accessories.
Formula 1: Linen pants + fitted tank + flat sandal
This is one of my favorite warm-weather formulas because it feels relaxed but still elevated. The key is balance: a wide-leg linen pant works best with a more fitted top.
Add a structured bag, simple jewelry, and a slide or strappy sandal.
Formula 2: White denim + button-down + raffia accessory
White denim instantly feels fresh for summer. Add a striped, white, or chambray button-down and finish with a raffia bag or sandal.
This is polished enough for lunch, travel, or casual Friday.
Formula 3: Simple dress + flat sandal + statement earring
A great summer dress is a complete outfit. Choose an easy shape that does not cling, then add a sandal and one accessory that makes it feel styled.
Formula 4: Denim skirt + tank + lightweight layer
A denim skirt is a great alternative to shorts. Pair it with a ribbed tank, button-down, or lightweight cardigan.
Formula 5: Matching set + refined shoe
Matching sets are perfect for summer because they require almost no effort. Wear together for an instant outfit or separate the pieces to create more looks.
Formula 6: Lightweight trouser + tee + sneaker
This is the summer version of casual polish. A lightweight trouser with a clean tee and refined sneaker feels current, comfortable, and put together.
